Description

From the outside Lakota looks like an abandoned warehouse with graffiti covered walls and blacked out windows. But step inside and you'll feel more like you're at a psychedelic dance festival! The building is filled with uv decorations, dimly lit corners and dancers covered in body paint. It certainly feels like you’re a world away from the franchised bars and clubs of Bristol’s harbour side. What's great about Lakota is its layout. Spread over 4 floors with a large balcony surrounding the downstairs floor (which is high enough to not feel too invasive to the dance area), plenty of random stair cases and a massive outside smoking/chillout area (with a fast food van). There are several bars selling the usual drinks and the ques are refreshingly small with most people being more concerned with dancing then the usual nightclub chore of wading through a 4 person thick crowd to get a round of drinks. The music a Lakota as a rule is usually pretty good. Hosting Drum & Bass, Psycadelic Trance (Tribe of Frog) and Hard Dance events. If you don't like dance music though the chances are you won't like Lakota. Live bands playing at Lakota have included Underworld, Utah Saints and Jamiroquai, as well as numerous DJs (Judge Jules, Roni Size, Infected Mushroom). If you like the music and don't mind getting a bit grubby then Lakota should definitely be near the top of your list.

Terrible outdoor space
Lakota is great on the inside, but their outdoor area is a horrortrip lit by a glaring 5000-Watt spotlight, a bare concrete platform framed by bare concrete walls and wire. A friend of mine said that seeing the fluffy punters there reminded him of "lambs grazing at Auschwitz". That's over the top but you get the picture.

Sort it out guys - mellow lighting, benches, a few plants and a few mural paintings would only cost pennies. If the Black Swan can do it, I'm sure one of Bristol's biggest and best clubs can do it too.

1st Tribe of Frog 2009 Nightclub Event and 1st Visit to Lakota Nightclub Br
From the outside all I saw was very dirty, grubby and messy people queuing outside. Queue was not very long but I did get there around 11.30pm.

A Very loud and banging exterior making me think this place was not a nightclub rather an old building with an illegal rave inside.

The girls all dressed in fairy outfits, trainers and tracksuit bottoms, the guys not much different.

Once in I realised how big this amazing venue was. Certainly for the messy nightclub ravers out there... I knew Lakota would be one messy filled night.

Be warned, for all the girls and boys who like dressing up, pulling cute girls on a night out at Oceana, Chicago Rock and Panache this is not the place for you.

Everybody that goes to Lakota just want to dance, stomp and have a munching time.

Anyway TRIBE OF FROG really was what you call a night out. The atmosphere was thriving everyone loved each other. Psychedelic, techno and Eclectic Chill tunes made the nightclub experience worthwhile.

Dancing in the middle of luminous butterflies, glow sticks and shiny disco balls you would not think you were in a nightclub in the middle of Bristol.

Once I had danced for a few hours, upstairs took me to the Lakota cafe. Drinks, (at a reasonable £3 price on average) cakes, pizza and pretty balloons were available.

Walk across the landing then I reached the chill out area... everyone was sat down on cushions, taking in the vibe and relaxing listening to tunes.

Lakota nightclub really is the place to be in Bristol, if you like festivals and raving all night without bouncers watching your every move you can get what you want from Tribe of Frog.

I didn’t tend to go outside but I know ice poles, burgers and chips are available if you need a snack.

Still never losing the festival feel. Even if it’s a tad cold, the fire breathing statues can keep you warm if you need fresh air.

Girls, I would warn you to wear shoes that you don’t mind getting messy and you will not need to take off. Lakota is not the cleanest of places.

A lot of words for one nightclub, one event but until you visit Lakota you wouldn’t realise what a place it is.
